One of the modeling tool i use other than blender is sculptris. Other than sculpting, sculptris can also do a texture painting to the model. This time i want to know how blender can transfer texture from hi poly model to a low poly model so in the future if i'm importing the 3d model i sculpt from sculptris to blender i will know how transfer its texture to a low poly model.
For now i won't model anything in sculptris, i will use the standard cube from blender instead.
Scene Preparation...
First thing i do is duplicate the standard cube and move it to other layer (layer 2).
preparing a hi-poly cube...
then move back to layer one and use bevel modifier for the first cube.
i use the default setting then click apply button.

Then i use multi-res modifier and subdivide it to level 4 and click apply.
After that i apply some texture to the hi-poly cube. In texture panel inside mapping section i change the projection from flat to cube.

Preparing low-poly cube...
After that i start to unwrap the low-poly cube. To do that first i move to layer 2 where the low-poly cube is located.
Then i select all the edges and mark seam to all edges by pressing Ctrl+E then click "Mark Seam".
After that, unwrap it by pressing "U" key and click "Unwrap".

To make sure that UV has been unwrapped, i checked by changing the screen layout to UV-Editing.

At the UV-Layout window, i assign new untitled image for base image that will be used for receiving image data that being transfered from hi-poly cube texture.
After that i change the screen layout back to Default.
Tranfering texture from hi-poly to low-poly cube...
Next i move the low-poly cube back to layer 1 where the hi-poly cube located.
Now it's time to transfer the texture data from hi-poly cube to the low-poly cube.
First i select the hi-poly cube, then i shift select the low-poly cube.
Then i click render panel, and at the bottom of the render panel there's a section called bake.
On Bake Mode option i choose texture from dropdown list and i also checked Selected to active option.
After that i click the bake button and viola... the texture from hi-poly is transferred to the low-poly cube.
To make sure that the texture has been transferred, i select the low poly cube and go to edit mode, then change the screen layout back to UV-Editing to see that the texture is already tranferred to the untitled image i created earlier.
Now all i have to do is save it to some file.
The baking process can also be used to transfer normal map texture from hi-poly to low-poly object.
